Okay, so I haven't had this tank up crazy long but everything seems to be growing, anyways everything has been stable and I started getting coraline. I do weekly WC of about 5% and my tank is a total system volume of 25g

Params are:
No3-0
Po4-0
Alk-8.4
Ca-470
pH-7.9-8.1
Mag-1480-1500

I have mostly sps, some LPS and only a few softies.

Now to the problem-
My salt is h2ocean and its supposed to keep my alk 10-11 well when I do a WC it goes to about 10.4. Its at 8.4 So I was confused at how my kH is so low. I just assumed it was the new sps I added so I dosed accordingly. I dosed 2.4 ml as brightwell a part B supposibly raises it by 1.67 per every 1ml. I test about 3hrs later and it's still at 8.4?? So I thought maybe I had a bad test I checked with another test kit and it read 8-9 (crappy API) the other test kit I'm using is the Red Sea pro. So I mix salt and wait awhile and test that At 1.26 salinity- I get 11.2 kH

Can anybody help me get my kH more stable and tell me why it's not raising? The bottle of part B is brand new.

Thanks..

If I'm looking at the same product (reef code B) then 1ML will raise the KH (DKH) 2.22 in 1 gallon of water. Your at 8.4 now so your looking to raise your alk about 2ml so your dose would be roughly 25ML which should put you at 10.62. I would dose half that, test and then do the other half the following day. Try not to raise your alk more than 1 DKH per day and its even better if you can spread that dose out and add a little at a time.

Thank you. I will give thy a try and see what happens.

You have to wait for it to mix in with your current system water I wouldn't worry about it just check it tomorrow.

Be sure to report back because if that doesn't work I suspect you have a large Ca source in your tank.. as a rock or some item that needs to come out. A source of Ca will release calcium into your tank and it will bind with your alkalinity molecules and drop out of the water solution. Therefore the KH can not be maintained.

He only dosed 2.4 ML, that's not gonna change a whole lot.

Your not an idiot, I did the same thing when I first started. It honestly took me years to grasp the alk/cal concept. You did the best thing you could which was ask questions and now you'll be stronger for it.

Thanks again btw.
