My torch has been doing fine for months but he started to get worse and looks like this did a 10 gallon water change and my Neptune trident is keeping all primates stable and even checked with Hanna what is happening nothing new is in the tank???

Hmm. Not changes in tank perimeters recently?
I see the clowns near it are the perhaps trying to live in it? Clowns can be a little overbearing to their hosts sometimes.
I would think that but they have also hosted it in a way

I have a clown in my hammer coral. It’s adorable lol. I’m watching him like a hawk though. They get to wallowing in it too roughly and it can really irritate a smaller coral.

I moved him but I really feel like it is something different

I’ve had bad experiences with Aussie gold torches exactly like this, and have heard anecdotes from others of the same. They seem to do well for a while, then just shrivel away.

Sorry I don’t have any advice for you, just sharing my experience. Good luck!

Thank you though it’s my favorite coral and I’d hate to lose him

Your parameters seem fine. I would REALLY second the notion that the clowns are the most likely culprit. With a torch that size, rubbing on its skeleton would irritate it VERY fast

Yeah I did take word of that and I moved him away from the old spot and if I even see them close I’ll add the acclimation box in so they can’t get near it

After moving him he seems to be doing better I’m going to go with you we’re correct on the clownfish man they do damage if so

Hey, seems like you are getting good advice. I agree it could be the clowns! Obviously every tank is different, but I would also consider lowering phosphate a bit, could also be a factor in my opinion.

Aussie golds are hard to keep and finky. They are normally found in brackish waters where rivers meet the ocean so good flow... parameters vary but dirty is how I've been told to keep them (which is not a reality for a reef tank if you're keeping other things). So what can you do... a couple of questions:

How long has it been in that state? Is it not extending?
Are any of your other torches exhibiting that behavior?
Have you tried spot dosing amino acid? We use Brightwell we've had luck with recovering indo torches and goni's.

We had a three-headed beast for a month, moderate flow, par was about 120-140, one day it decided to melt and we lost all three heads :(. Post this we tried aminos and it makes me wonder if we could have saved it.

Keep us posted
