Please help with tank crash

I asked them and they said no. They are a big fish store. Not just a little business, so I doubt they would even do stuff like that. Your not allowed to have carts jn certain parts of the store and I had my 8 month old son in the cart and I asked if they'd make an exception and the guy said no. He said you have to leave the cart and carry "it" with you. Which sort of made me mad.
I see, doesn’t sound to fun, haha. I guess we wait for the RODI then, do you have a big clean brute can or something to mix alot of SW in?

Not yet, but I will be getting one for the Rodi. The water is at the correct temp now so I started adding some.

My tank is at 38ppt so I should lower it to 36?

Now also, I heard sometimes that fragging the dead part of dying coral can help save coral. Is this correct?

Sometimes but only if they are in a healthy and stable environment. Not your current situation. I don’t however do that I just let things go, they will grow back over the dead part eventually.

This is most likely going to significantly lower my alk and nitrates. It that OK?

So I bought a digital temp reader today when I first out it in it was reading 78.6. Now it's reading 76.6. Is that a drastic change?

Yea that will be good. 13 alk is super high. Nitrates will still be a good number, most likely 35.

That’s not to bad. If it was 76 to 80 in a short time period that wouldn’t be ideal, still not awful, I wouldn’t make a habit of it. If it drops below 74 start worrying.

It's a heater that a got that shuts off it's self. I'm not quite sure what temp it shuts off. I got the salinity down to 1.026. It's 4:30 am so I'm done for the night. What should I be doing tomorrow now?

Let it settle out and test everything again tomorrow. Pick up more RODI. Hope RODI maker gets delivered. Pick up a big mixing can to make lots of salt water in, a pump for that that’s over 400gph, and a heater if you don’t already have these things. How far is the LFS? Make a few trips a day or a bunch of trips in a day and fill up the mixing container with RODI. Make good perfect saltwater at 1.025. Do a huge water change. Preferably 100% so you can get as much of the heavy metals and other bad stuff that tap puts in there. Things will continue to look mad for awhile(week or more) but they will be in a healthy environment and have a fair shot at recovery.

Will do. I really appreciate the help. Would you mind me PMing you for help if I were to have any questions tomorrow or ever?

Don't think your temp is an issue. My tank has been going between 79 to 83. I finally got that resolved an found a $5 4"fan I set on the shelf blowing down on the water surface. I'd be a lot more concerned with your high alk and salinity. When I was 6 months into my first tank, my alk went up to about 12.5-13 range. my sps's started showing signs of bleaching. When I learned about 2 parts doing from my lfs that helped and the corals recovered.

So where to things stand. Did you get you alk into the right range after correcting the salinity level?
I will have to test after work. The salinity is now correct, after work I am going to do a small water change with the amount of Rodi I have left and then my new Rodi probably won't be here until later this week so I'm going to have to pick up more tomorrow after work.

Test your alk -- before and 1hr after the water change. By doing it before and after -- you can estimate your alk utilization between water changes (if you keep track of how much time has elapsed since the last water change). That will tell you if your water changes are sufficient. You don't have to do that all the time -- but it is a good way of checking where you are at.

Hey @Hemmdog I'm curious and maybe you'd know this. Almost all of my corals that died have these big pockets of air and brownish slimy algae of the skeleton of them. None of my corals that died before have this. Do you know what this would be from?

Sounds like brown jelly disease, I haven’t dealt with it first hand.
