hi u guys doin today.. I'm new to the forum and had a question I was hoping someone can help me with.. I have a 40gal breeder reef tank in the process, it's 12wks old and runs with a 30 gal sump/ref, protein coralife 125 skimmer.. ive noticed that in my sump I'm gettin white stringy/slimey stuff growing.. Does anyone knows what this could be.. It's gets kind heavy in there after like 4-6 days!! Some one please help Caz it looks nasty!!

Welcome. :-)

Hmm any chance of an image?

Adding any products?

Have you stocked the tank at all?

Any ammonia or other chemistry values available?

Did you use live rock, and if so what type?

Thanks for the qwik reply.. I can't show no pics at the moment Caz I jus siphoned it out yesterday with the weekly water change.. I used Kent Nano reef 2 part, I added bio booster at the start up. I have live rock and sand, 6 line wrasse, clarki clown, cleaner shrimp, watchman goby nd tiger pistol and cuc Ofcourse!! A drag of zoas, plug of monitors, and lil rock full of green paly's.. And my levels in the tank are zero across the board.. Ph can be a lil higher.. And the live rock was base rock jus Sittin in a tub of water at the lfs..

That's a pic!!

Sounds almost bacterial probably the bio booster, and then the stocking.

Slow down on stocking a tad, no more carbon or bacterial products. Run some charcoal, see if whatever it is burns it's self out.

I jus put in a bag of chemi-pure elite 2days ago, is that a problem?? So run the tank with no other carbon? And what's charcoal?? Sorry never heard of it.. My lfs said to do like 3-5gal water changes every other day to clean up the water from the extra bacteria.. True or not??

Chemi-pure elite is perfect. Carbon and charcoal are interchangeable now a days. But when I refer to charcoal I do not mean a form of sugar such as carbon, sorry.

Have you done any water changes? And if so with what mix?

Since I've seen this start I've done 2 5gal water changes in the past 4 days and plan on another one tomorrow to clean up and siphon what I can out.. I'm using the Red Sea salt.. And when I get water from the lfs he is using Red Sea coral pro..

Your water and tank look pretty clean.

I would ride it out for right now, the tank is young and you've added a lot of stuff.

Water changes are fine though unless the problem gets worse.

Thank u, that's the refugium area.. Haven't placed any sand in yet due to this problem, I rather wait it out b4 wasting money.. Ok so I'm jus goin to let it play out.. Thank u..

And another question, this wouldn't happen to be happening Caz I'm runnin with out a lid, jus a diy canopy with the bak open and the sump not covered either in my diy stand with no panels, jus frame work.. My house is kinda dusty I've noticed.. Will this effect my water?

Skimmer goes in the 1st chamber but I'm cleaning it out with some vinger Caz I noticed it was dirty inside

Looks great over all.

Nahh I would not worry about air born particles contributing to the issue or an issue.

:-)
