PLEASE HELP!!!

Maybe put her in a qt with live brine and see if that helps. You could make sure she is eating with competing for food. No sure but it might help.
I am a little scared to but her in qt because I am not sure she can survive the acclimation.

So should I put her in qt?
Tough call but the way I look at moving a fish such as yours are that you can monitor and be able to add any meds quickly if need be. If your qt isn't up, take some water from your main tank and act as if your doing a water change.

My mandarin did that same behavior when it tried swallowing a large bristle worm. I was able to see a small chunk of it sticking out of its mouth so I reached in with some tweezers and carefully pulled it out. It recovered after that and is still with me, I've had it for over 2years now.

I put her in qt but she didn't make it. Thank you everyone for your help.

Sorry, just seeing this now. It looks like the mandarin died in less than 3 hrs from when the OP started this thread, so I don't think there was anything that could be done to save her. It sounds like she might have starved to death. :(

You may be right. It is just that I have been feeding her BBS once or twice a day, along with pods, and I have seen her eating ROE, that I feed to the tank pretty much every day. I think maybe when I got her at the LFS, she was too thin to bring back without having to be eating every second.

Ack I have been there many times , even with rehabed mandys :( they produce toxins when stressed . In shipping they pretty much ingest a lethal dose but it takes time to effect them usually for me about 3 months into being happy and healthy eating pods and getting fat they just slip into "cardiac " mode when they stop swimming and look like they cant breathe out of the 4 or so I have tried to rescue from the stores over time I had 1 live longer than 4-5 months. I hope your buddy makes the turn for the better , I have tried alot of things QT ect .... but nothing ever worked I was gonna try to super aerate the water it was in once but never got the chance to. best of luck
@Humblefish, have you ever heard of this happening? I find this interesting.

It is important to understand the biology of these fish. Their digestive system is tiny. They can literally eat until they are full 6 times a day and still starve to death. That is what makes them so difficult to keep in captivity.
Did you feed her BBS using a Paul B style feeder where it could just sit and have a constant supply of food for hours?

No, I really wanted to but I just never had the time or resources to build it. I will defiantly build one before I try another mandarin (if I try another one)

What do you people think of the biota mandarins?

Don't give up if you really like them. As bad as I hate losing fish, I've always used these cases as learning experiences to get better.

This fish are the main reason why I joined the hobby. I just feel like I prepared pretty well and I still can't keep them.

Have you lost 1 of these before now? I felt this way not 2 long ago as it was 50/50 if what I put through qt would make it. You feel defeated and that you let them down and want to give up. But if you give up you may never know the joy that these are.

This is the first mandarin I have lost.
Thank you!!
