Hello. I have a zebra Moray eel. Had about 3 months. He is 2 feet long. Was eating shrimp the whole time whenever he was offered. Her about the past 6 days he refused to eat and started to act funny. My water parameters seem to be within ranges and everybody else on the system is doing perfectly fine. He doesn't have any spots, he looks fine. He was just sitting out on my rocks and allowed me to pick him up and he is now in my refugium and I don't know what to do

What do you mean by acting funny?
I recently added some inverts that brought in some parasites. It's possible the eel is just the first to show symptoms, though I know nothing about them

I don't know anything about eels I meant. Are any of the fish/eel scratching, breathing heavy, yawning, twitching, etc?

Acting funny as in sitting in different spots. He did look like he was itching at times. Last 2 days when I broadcast fed the tank he would dart out to the front of the tank like he was scared of something. Laying his head down. And letting my pick him up, it was like he wanted me to take him and help him

And all my fish coral and critters are all acting normal

If you have only been feeding it shrimp that is really very bad for eels, especially the farm raised ones at the grocery store.

If it’s very sedated and just laying there and let lying you pick it up, unfortunately you have maybe 24/48 hours left. It’s too far gone at this point.

Eels NEED a varied diet to satisfy their nutritional diet, that shrimp is like candy to them. Yes they live it, but it’s very bad for their health if it’s all they eat. Also 3 months isn’t too long to have one, so it may not have been in good health when you got it.

Next time mix in silversides, squid, clam, etc.

Sorry [emoji853]

I tried, I feed everyone rods food, he spit out everything but the shrimp. I tried every piece of food available. He would only eat shrimp. I did not feed him farm raised.

So as an update. Eel has been in my 40g refugium with just pods and cheato. a few days ago I thought I would put him down because everyone told me he was dead. I put him in a plastic bag and he came to life and fought, so I put him back and is still going. Noticed some white stuff near his rear. And he looks slightly more alert and upright. Still won't accept food. Noticed a swollen section near his rear so I massaged it a bit. Seemed to help.

If it's still there in the morning I will. Looks similar to what my tortoise leaves behind from time to time. Also seen similar from igunas

It's hard to see but the site pieces in front of the flash

He is moving around the refugium a little more. Still didn't eat but he is looking better, only thing is near his back end there is still 1 inch section that's swollen still. I feel if he can take a **** he will get better

I found where the white stuff is coming from. There is a hole 3/4 the way down his body. Can't tell if it's a wound or his but
