Last week I began to go through a mini cycle without knowing it. I just thought the cloudiness was due to the food I was using to broadcast feed but a couple days later it was obvious something was wrong. I work two jobs so it's hard to stay on top of things...anyway it got pretty bad so I pulled out a couple of corals including my black sun coral which is my favorite of anything in the tank. I moved it to a temporary tank but now it's almost completely bleached...the polyps won't extend but the "craters" where the polyps emerge from are still black (those of you who've had a black sun coral know what I'm talking about). What can I do to help save it?????

Hi Gary. Can you describe what you observed to make you believe that you were experiencing a "mini cycle"? Can you describe the "cloudiness"(i.e. white & milky)? What would you describe as "pretty bad"? How long had your tank been set up prior to experiencing this? Were the corals giving you indications they were unhappy before you took them out of the DT or did you do this prophylactically and now they are suffering?

Well first of all, I was trying to get detritus out of the bottom of the tank and ended up doing a big water change by mistake. Then the water looked cloudy the next day or so and continued to get worse. The corals were happy where they were placed in the tank and would extend polyps at feeding time. Also, I describe pretty bad as watching as my feather duster, a couple fish, and a couple corals I couldn't remove die. Also I tested the ammonia and it was off the charts by this point.
