Please help

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to reefing and am around a month into my first saltwater aquarium. My tank levels are all stable ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 4 ph 8.1 salinity 35ppt. I purchased my first fish (2 clownfish one premium black snowflake and a black misbar) around a week ago and when I got them home I noticed a very small spot on the one, right where the fin meets the body. Now at first I figured it was just maybe from transport a scale or something but, it has gotten bigger and now I've noticed a very small dot on the other clownfish. Both are eating well and acting normal and were freshwater dipped before going into the tank I dont believe its ick it looks more like Lymphocystis but I'm not sure and am wondering if it's best I return the fish to my local fish store and get something else I've heard Lymphocystis is very contagious and I dont want to give it to more fish any advice?

Most likely if your fish is exhibiting some kind of disease, going back to the original supplier is not going to give you healthier specimens. You need to QT your animals to prevent these issues. Prophylactic treatment is recommended to ensure your new additions do not wreak havoc on your main display.

I would make sure your clowns are eating well. Try using selcon or some additives. Not eating is a major indicator or your fish health and well being. You can try garlic extract to keep them excited about the food. I hope this helps you. Good luck man!

your fish look like they have ragged fins and it looks like ich to me. Assuming it is ich (and that may be all the symptoms they display) it is now in your tank. Your options now are taking the clowns out and moving them to a quarantine tank and treating them with copper and leaving your display tank empty for 75 days and then only putting fish in after 2+ weeks in treated quarantine. OR, letting the clowns heal from it on their own with good food, clean water and vitamins and running the risk of it reoccurring with any new fish you add. Either way, you should qt new fish as they will often come with diseases like ich or flukes etc.

Okay thanks everyone, yeah I'm not sure I'd say he fins is more from them picking on each other but there is not white dots on the fish just that white mucus looking stuff on the one at the bottom where the fin meets the body it looks more like a little clump of something than ick but I am going to be taking them out and quarantining them and treating them also my local fish store has is pretty cool would you say it's best to maybe just see if they would take the fish back and give me new ones? I really dont want to have any major issues down the line

If you want to treat them in your DT, the I recommend Polyp Labs Reef Medic. It will treat Ich and other problems in tank. I used it and worked very well.

Okay yeah I was wondering that also,because they are the only inhabitants in the tank would it be better to treat them in the tank in case it was ich since that would possibly kill protozoa in the water column as well as on the fish and substrate?

Yes, that would be the better route. Treat in tank thus getting any pathogens in the tank.

Okay perfect yeah that makes sense I really dont think its ich but I'm going to treat them with general cure and seacheam metroplex as it works for ick as well as a number of other things. Does this seem like a good way to go, considering not knowing exactly what's wrong?
