Bought a new purple tang yesterday. Unfortunately no room for a quarantine tank so into the display he goes. It appears that he may have starting signs of ich. I have a cleaner shrimp. Will he handle any of the issues? Other suggestions on treatment asap? Thanks

Well not being a jerk, you knew you had no qt before buying him. The issue is now it will be in the water attaching to whatever is week enough for it to take over. The good news i don't qt either lol. You can do treatments but most will leave your tank no suitable for coral. Natural from what I hear is garlic foods and healthy feeding to keep them fighting it. A cleaner shrimp only eats the small eggs/larva that fall off of im not mistaken. Ive fought if off once and lost one fish to it. Had a powder brown that was in my tank a year no issues, had a cleaning company come in tap the glass and he freaked out, got ich, infested 2 others, he died and the rest fought it off.

Not to sound jaded, but this problem seems to come up several times a day. Since sick fish from suppliers seems to be the norm now days, people should probably invest in a QT on day one into the hobby... You may get lucky and the fish will build up a resistance, but most likely it won't and instead it'll spread to the rest of your fish. As said above, your best bet now is to get a large UV sterilizer to try and keep it from going completely out of control. Or better yet, get a hospital tank large enough for all your fish and let the main tank go fallow for 76 days to eradicate Ich while you cure the fish in hospital.
