Please help

Salt level is spot on at .025 like it has always been, I only use reef crystals and have for years. And the water is at 79 degrees. Could have started a cycle? If I did is there anything I can do to correct it?

How big of a change? Do you have a standard water test kit to check: Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate? I know you would think the water change is to improve the water quality yet it sounds like something occurred to disrupt and shock the system. Double checking water chemistry is where I would start. Salinity being at 1.025 and the temp at 79 (a couple degree's on the warm side) shouldn't do that to the fish. Testing the water would possibly give you an idea or direction of why the fish response is what it is. Do you use a mixing pump to dilute fully and let it oxygenate over a period of time before adding to the tank? I'm just trying to give you a direction to help resolve the issue. Hopefully there is no fish loss.

Aye, check your source water for ammonia and other basics. What do you use to measure salinity? Have you calibrated it recently? Any new animals in the tank? Have the fish been fine before now?

Did you syphon the sand bed ?
I did syphon the sand bed, I use a refractor tp check the Salt and back it up with what the Apex says it is. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't let the water arriat as long as usually do. I guess I will go buy a basic water test kit and see where we are at.

If you had never done it before, or not in a long time, it’s possible that’s what’s making your fish ill. It’s a common cause of death in aquariums.

Do you know of anything I can do to counter act it? Thank you. I'm afraid I'm loosing my yellow tang that I have had for 12 years.

I guess some seachem prime, but you need to test your params and do it fast cause the crud that builds up in the sand can kill fast

I definitely agree with adding Seachem prime ASAP.

And change as much water as possible. If you have another tank, you could transfer your tang in it until things settle down in your display tank. Only if prime and the WC aren’t helping though, as this will be very stressful on the fish.
