I know this is not saltwater, but I am in dire need. My tank has gotten ich recently and it’s pretty bad. I put it on API super ich cure and it’s been about 48 hours. It’s gotten slightly better but my pictus catfish is really suffering. Yesterday and this morning, it was swimming drowsily at the surface and I tried to make it eat but it wouldn’t budge. Now it’s laying on a leaf gasping for air and it’s barely responsive when I touch it. Is there anything I could do?

Do you have any inverts in the aquarium if not I’d consider an in tank copper treatment such as Coppersafe. With freshwater you don’t have to worry as much about adding copper directly to the tank vs in our reef tanks/saltwater tanks it’s best not to add it directly to the display. Copper isn’t reef, plant, or invert safe but if you only have fish and nothing else then you can add it directly to the tank just follow the directions and don’t overdose it. The API super ich cure is not a copper based medication which is the only thing that has been proven to truly cure a disease and a fallow period but freshwater ich/protocols are not the same as saltwater. The other thing you want to do is add an extra airstone and increase oxygen in the water especially with copper treatment.
