Hello all,

I have weird algae growing in my tank the tank is about 3 month old. The aquascape is the same rock that I have used for the past 4 years, I had a really bad hair algae outbreak where I had to close the tank and start from scratch. All the rocks have been acid bathed and bleached. Currently not running a slimmer just an algae scrubber and only have 2 fish, and 2 maxspect gyre 350s so have alot of flow. Btw the tank is a Red Sea reefer 525xl. I have attached the pics below. The algae is weird it’s silverish to white and is relatively short.

It can be removed with a brush but not by hand. I do not carbon dose but I have carbon in the overflow to clean the water in a big bag.

I came up with my answer after watching a video on youtube "BRS tests vibrant" . The stuff you have looks like tank #3 and that tank has algae that looks like what you have. After rewatching the video it appears the tank has 2 types of algae with the first being what yours looks like and the second being golden algae.
