I live at the beach and I found a ton of these growing on a jetty (Rock structure going into the ocean) so I grabbed one and took it home to get a id. I'll post a better photo when it opens back up.

Not a duncan, as those have a calcium carbonate skeleton. Might be an anemone . . . hope you get a positive ID for species!

Where is the jetty you found it on? (What part of the country / world?)

If you collected this Anemone from temperate waters it will perish in your tank. They are not photosynthetic either.

Well typically photosynthetic anemones come from tropical water/warmer. The anemone is brown in color so it does not display the typical color you see with an anemone that has zooxanthellae. Anemones from temperate waters need feedings, they have no symbiotic zooxanthellae.

I wish I could keep it, I could handle feeding it but like you said it'll probably die in my tank.

I live in NC, and I never see cool things like this when I go to the beach! (And I live right near it! haha)

Just a word of caution, if you put the anemone in your tank you could get in world of trouble by Fish and Game for re-introducing the anemone back into the ocean, you could also get in world of trouble for taking one from the wild in a marine sanctuary so consider your options carefully. Just an FYI. ;)
