Hi,
I have 5 chromis and 1 hippo tang in qt. They r in theaputuc levels cuppermine for almost 14 days. They r on nebaplex-metriplex-furan 2 meds also. Everyone is eating and active. This morning I saw 1 of the chromis has a red spot on him. Please I'd and advise on any treatment necessary. Thanks

Being on a Chromis I would say that is likely the start of a Uronema sore. You need to hit him with Metroplex 2 scoops per 10 gallons and also in his food. Sadly enough (with Uronema)usually by the time it presents it’s too late for that fish. Run the Metro for 14 days with copper for your best chance at beating it. Uronema is a quick killer and is a free living parasite that cannot be “starved” out. If possible you might want to consider doing TTM to get him into an environment with a lower parasite load. I see you are already running Metro but at the lower dose (1 scoop per 10G)I have personally found that it’s not enough to kill Uronema but only slow it down. Here is a pic of a wrasse I had with the end stage sore that started like yours, my wrasse died that day.(first pic was early onset, second was end stage))

Agree^^^ Spot on.

Yes it is highly contagious, I lost 3 fish in 4 days and that was with treatment. If the others survive through treatment I would strongly recommend an extended observation period (3 weeks) afterwards to ensure you are Uronema free. If this gets into. Your DT you are looking at a complete tear down , bleaching and start over.

How is it possible I the parasite is still there after almost 14 days if he was on copper for almost 14 days??

Without the higher dosage of metro you most likely slowed it down, you need the higher dose of metro+copper to kill it.see my pics above

Copper doesn't treat uronema.

You have to use metronidazole at the max dose to be effective in erradicating Uronema.

If you can tank transfer these guys make sure the tank and all equipment (wet surfaces) get bleached, dried, then wipe down with vinegar before reusing. If you have any rock, sand, media in there I would honestly toss it or bleach it and let it dry completely.

Wow. So what would be the timeline for me to be comfortable to add these fish in to my DT?

You’re looking at two weeks of high dosage metro then I would do 3 weeks observation just because I’m paranoid about Uronema after seeing it kill so fast. So maybe 5 weeks if everything goes well. This is not a parasite you want to rush treatment on, if you rush it and get this in your DT you’ll be starting over.

Thanks! How high of a dose should I do?

2 scoops per 10G of Metro and make sure to give it to them in their food also. Run this for 14 days
They r in a 20 gallon tank I will move them all to a spare 10 gallon when I get home from work. I will make fresh saltwater that matches the salinity and temp. Should I pre dose with copper and metroplex?
