Please identify this algae

I actually sort of liked it when it was in a small spot and under control. But then it suddenly took off like crazy.

Here are two pictures. It sorta grows up off of the rock into sphere like formations, almost like a brillo pad. The texture is also brillo pad like, vey stiff and bristly. It really roots into the rock as well. When I peel a piece off the rocks, it bring some of the rock along with it (or at least some the coralline algae on the rock). That is what the white stuff is on one of the pictures.

Anyways, what is this stuff? I think I can pretty easily decrease nutrients, but it there anything small that eats this stuff?
