Honestly if you are doing anything but a nano tank I would recommend using a sumped system. We have been able to make this work but it's not the best option. If you do decide to go sump-less invest in a good oversized hob skimmer.

I have a 55 that has been going for 9 months and everything is happy and healthy and growing.so far so good.

Well didn't know was a HOB section. I use the bios heel and fill the 2nd chamber with bio balls and put a bag of carbon 1/2 way through filter life.

This is in a large shop so please excuse the mess. Two hang on the back petsmart special topfin 75gallon (each) that I jam full of polyester tedybear stuffing. Two remora aquaC skimmers one on each end of the tank. And a very large DIY 2gallon canister filter made from a igloo Gatorade container and a return pump. Filler with bio Media, crush live rock and about 4 inches of polyester teddy bear stuffing. 20% water change every other week. I top off by hand ever day and dose by hand every other day.

Take note that the Hydor Smart level has a maximum time of 10 minutes to top off. If the water didnt reach the desired/set level it will alarm. So what I did was I attached a regulator on the hose to regulate the duration to top off for 10minutes.

Yes it is, but they didn't have sumps when I started my tank, sumps or credit cards, cell phones, I Pods, MP3 players, flat screen TVs, $200.00 sneakers, Myley Cyrus or GaGa, GFCIs, RAP music or just about anything else except dirt and Jello
