I have a 450gallon system and I’m thinking about adding a calcium reactor. Tank is mainly SPS.

I’m looking for recommendations for the reactor, pump & valves.

I don’t really have a budget in mind yet.

Thanks!

I'm using georeef calcium reactor and carbon doser regulator.
Highly recommend

I have Jeffs Lifereef skimmer and love it. I'll check out his CA Reactors. Thanks
Photo from when I was installing my tank almost two years ago. LifeReef reactor is on the bottom left. I used the same one one my previous tank but now use a pH controller. I never have to mess with it.

Nice, clean and a wonderful tank !!!
Having the same oscillation, since using life reef skimmer which I love, I first thought of going with LR calcium reactor too. But studied that, their pH probe is on lower side near the pump and to calibrate we need to drain the reactor. Is it true ?
Mr.Jeff has mentioned in his site that it can be run wtihout pH controller !!! How are you running it
Is it need separate feeding pump.

I use a Rio 800 as a feeder pump so yes it does need one. The effluent speed is controlled by a clamp or valve whichever you decide on the exit end.

You do not need to drain the reactor to remove the pH probe. By removing the exit quick connect water will not release from the pH probe outlet due to the vacuum that is created.

I chose to use a pH controller simply as a safety precaution but it is not required. It is also nice to help with tuning since you can over supply CO2 and it will simply shut off versus trying to find the sweet spot.

thanks for your reply and you mean if we remove the pH probe water will not drain through it?
If possible can you posy some photos of feed pump connection tube size and your set up on what you feel needed to take care while installation.

I love my Geosreef CR612X2 Reactor and Geosreef Kalkwasser Reactor. Quality product made in USA and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I will add that after switching from dosing 2 part to calcium & kalk reactor my dkh and calcium numbers have never been as stable as they are now.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I’m leaning towards the life reef setup.

Guys running the Geo, what pump & regulator are you using?

This reactor:

This CO2 regulator

This has worked very well for me as a system. Both devices have run in my system for multiple years now with no issues once you get them dialed in. I have a 10lb CO2 tank. I change the tank and the media at the same time to only dial in as little as possible.

Hello,

So I have always kept my tank system super easy but is getting more complex as it goes. I still dose manually daily and log it in my note book. I have considered getting a calcium reactor and I’m going to sound so dumb but well I’ll sound dumb. Not sure what I’m missing so maybe I’m making this harder. Since I work in the medical field most of the co2 canisters and is 02 canisters are purchased at norco medical supplies. Is this where you got yours as well? I don’t have the problem with the regulator, but I can’t fine the ph probe or ph reader any where. Not to mention I’m not sure how they set up and dial it in. Meaning for example I dose alk and calcium daily and test mag and use noprox and dose trace elements. So daily I use 1.5 tablespoons of the seachem powder alk and calcium once per day. That keeps me at 8 and 440. I normal dose mag about once a month to stay at 1390. With the trace elements based on calcium I’m at 1.5ml per day as well. To keep my nitrates low I use redsea noprox and based on water volume of 240 I dose normally 16ml daily. So how hard would it be to convert what I am doing now to have the correct setting on the calcium reactor?.
Any suggestions on the type of media to use in this, because I am really shooting for being really stable. I’m very consistent now and have had great success but it keeps going up. Plus I have to find these no higher than 22 inches or 23 high or they won’t come out.

Do you still do quite a few water changes or have something in place for that as well?
