Please Review my QT Plan. (New fish arrive Tuesday)

I ordered a Longnose Butterfly, purple dottyback, and 3 green chromis from live aquaria. They are getting delivered tomorrow (Tues). I figured these would be decently hardy and good fish to try a new QT method on. I have been studying and trying to nail down an effective, prophylactic qt that is 30 days long.

My plan is to set up my 20 gallon tall hospital tank (Low to no light, low flow, good surface agitation) with fresh salt water at the same sg as Live aquaria ships in with a dose of Dr. Tims one and only. The fish will be temp acclimated and released into the tank. They will receive 24 hrs to settle into the tank and hopefully begin eating. After 24 hours, the tank will be dosed with CP. They will reside in the CP hospital tank for 14 days with 5 gallon water changes every other day (With corrective CP and Dr. Tims) bringing the salinity back up to 35ppt by the end of the 14 days.

On day 14, the fish will be transferred to the observation tank (Established 20L). They will have 24 hours to settle into that tank and then they will receive the first dose of general cure. Then 7 days observation then 2nd dose of general cure. Then 7 more days of observation. 7 days post 2nd general cure dose, if all is well, the fish will be transferred into the display.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Anything I should change or add?

Sounds like a pretty good plan.

Just make sure you have some antibiotics on hand. Bacterial infections in the form of gram negative are becoming more common.

I would acclimate them directly into CP at half strength. Then take it to full strength 24hrs later. I acclimate fish directly into 1.0ppm copper as of late. Then take them to therapuetic over the first 48hrs.

Only other recommendation I have is to feed them food soaked metro/focus or GC/focus as well for 14 days.

I have kanaplex, nitrofuracin green powder, and general cure for antibiotics. Can I still soak food if they are in cp? I'm not sure when to treat antibiotics if they are in cp. I guess if there is an infection I would cease cp and begin antibiotics? Then after antibiotic course restart cp?

I feed lrs, live black worms, and mysis. They get pellets and flake 2x a day with auto feeder and then the good stuff once a day.

I don't have experience with mixing ABX and CP as I don't have a source for RX grade CP where I live. I mix Furan-2 and Kanaplex with copper all the time. @Humblefish ?

You can mix most ABX with CP. The only one I would avoid using in a cycled QT is NFG , because the methylene blue contained therein has the potential to completely wipe out your biofilter.

Can nfg be dosed with cp. My hospital tank will not have biological filter in place. Water changes and amquell plus will be used to bind ammonia.

If no biofilter to worry about, then yes. :)

Would it be advisable to dose nfg with cp prophylacticly for all new incoming fish or only when infection is suspected.

I wouldn't dump that many meds (NFG contains 3 ABX) on a fish all at once unless it was an emergency situation.

Good to know. I will stick with my plan and if it gets bad I'll seek your advice before dumping anything in there.
Maybe fresh water dip? I am no expert but I just ran into a sick fish from LFS and I think it had a combo of velvet & flukes. You actually see the flukes fall right off of them if they have. Maybe someone else could chime in with more experience.

I'm nervous about fw dips as last time I tried the fish does shortly after. It was covered in flukes. Or some work like thing. I could seem them wiggling on its body before the fw bath. Then they all fell off in fw bath. It was a bad infestation but I worry about the stress of fw baths and the preping of the bath water. I don't have buffers to buff the ph.

If a fish is heavily infested with flukes and/or velvet, a 5 min FW dip is a necessary first step towards successful treatment.

In addition to removing 80-90% of velvet trophonts, a FW dip also forces flukes to dislodge from a fish. Since praziquantel (Prazipro) causes flukes to spasm before dislodging, a badly infested fish will likely die if exposed to prazi without the benefit of a 5 min FW dip beforehand.

Any tips on fw dips. Is rodi water brought up to temp and a bubbler all that is needed?

Pretty much. I've experimented with matching pH, and saw no change in mortality rate. Bottom line is if your fish is still "savable" then a 5 min FW dip isn't going to harm him. IME; the only fish that die as a result of a FW dip were too far gone anyway.
