I recently got a boatload of colonies from a guy on a different board. He had just moved them from his big tank to his little tank, as he had just sold his house and everything had to go. Turns out the good deal he gave me was actually because he had an infestation of AEFW.

In hindsight, I would have just handed him the money and walked away just to save myself the headache of his dishonesty. However, nothing I can do about it now.

THAT SAID: what if I had a 60g quarantine system already set up with skimmer, heater, lights, chaeto reactor etc...and just ran Bayer in it instead of dipping? Has ANYONE done this before? Would love feedback on this. Yes, it will kill inverts, yes it would kill Fish, however, this is a separate system that I’m ok with running Bayer through and it doesn’t have any critters in it.

Has this been done before? Just dosing the water and doing weekly water changes with fresh water doses with more Bayer? Feedback guys?

I think that it will end up killing the bacteria as well. You will end up with a tank with no way to filter, buffer or anything. There are some posts about people who have had issues with rocks left in bayer too long. I have no idea how the skimmer would react. Chaeto is probably dead. Also, at the rate that I dip, you would need 6 or 8 jugs of Bayer of that 60 gallons... I mix it strong.

A double dose of Flatworm Stop eradicated from a tank that I help maintain. It took about 6 months, but it is clean as a whistle now.

Even if you do intend to start a scheduled dipping regiment, I would recommend some Flatworm Stop to knock the worms back and let the corals heal up and recover from the move before you stress them more. The stuff does a good job in even just a few weeks of helping the corals heal and stuff. I have found Bayer to be very safe and effective on healthy coral, but it can still stress and kill weak corals.

I’ve had acros die that were dipped in Bayer too long. Left some in a bucket once for a couple hours. They died shortly after.
