Ok, so I am pretty embarrassed, but for the life of me, I can not get my heaters setup to either provide an out of range alarm, or shut on/off when it reaches the set threshold.

I have two heaters, one in the tank, and one in my sump. I have set the Apex to both auto or on, and set the on/off to a range between 76.5-78.0. My tank temp is currently 78.6, and neither heater will shut off automatically. Nor will I get an alert that the tank is outside the temp range I have set.

Can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks!

You actually enable the alarm on the Temperature probe, not the heater control. So on the dashboard hit the settings wheel next to the temperature display.

As for shutting off automatically, you're settings look correct to shut off at 78.5. Just make sure your slider on the dashboard is set to "Auto", and not "On". "On" will cause it to stay on all the time.

Looks right. Are you sure the heater is plugged in outlet 4?

if you change “control type” to advanced, it will show you the code.

That looks good to me, but you said that you are trying to keep you tank between 77-78 degrees, the off temp is 78.5 on the screen shot, try lowering your temp to 78 and see if it turns it off.

Agreed with above, make sure it is plugged into the right outlet.

Thanks guys. The temp alarm is set, but it doesn't send an alert or make an aural tone when out of range. Maybe unplugging it and re-booting would help? I do that with the Airbus when it gets temperamental sometimes, and it often works!

There's no audible tone with the APEX unless you have the "display module". Instead it'll set an "alarm" on the dashboard. You can then setup an email outlet to send you an email when alarms are on.

Check out BRS's video on setting alarms and emails.

Ok, so this is odd. If I set the temp from 25C (current temp is 25.3) to 26C with a turn-off at 26.9, it works fine. But if I change it to 25 to turn-on, and 25.9 to turn off, it won't work. What am I missing here?

Dejaría la configuración que solo había cambiado de ° C a ° F ya que su sonda de temperatura también está en ° F, saludos.

I don’t believe it will turn on until temp drops below 25. It will then remain on until temp rises above 25.9.
between those 2 temps it is satisfied and will remain off.

Ok, thanks. I'll give it some time.

Ok, so I'm still not sure what on earth I'm doing wrong, or if the APEX is bad.

I have the heater set to come on via auto, based on the following:

On at 77.2F and Off at 78.5

Yet, nothing I do makes this happen. Please see screen shots:

maybe i'm missing something, but i don't see a problem.
Tank temp is 77.8
Heater will turn on when tank temp falls below 77.2 and will turn off when temp rises above. 78.5

heres my code as an example:

Fallback OFF
If Tmp < 77.9 Then ON
If Tmp > 78.1 Then OFF
Defer 000:30 Then OFF
Defer 000:30 Then ON
If Output RetPmp_3_4 = OFF Then OFF

It is not yet below 77.2, so the heater will not turn on :)
