Picked up a few favia / favite frags and have them sitting in eggcrate at the moment. Assuming I can not only keep them alive, but have them grow a bit (not a given lol), what's a decent frag style for a brain coral like this?

I have no idea where I'm gonna put them in the DT ultimately, so I'm looking to give them an appropriate base for a year or so.

I dislike when I see large puddling frags on a flat plug... but these don't puddle, right? They kinda build a dome upwards in which case a flat plug might actually be appropriate.

Any advice?

And I'm sure there's a reason people will puddle their frags, I just don't know what it is. Easier to cut up and sell?

I usually take rock rubble and form a mound style base so they can't grow flat. You could also find flat tile you could cut and layer slightly larger underneath.

The top of this was only 5 polyps, I mounted it to rubble and eventually to the rock. It's starting to hang over, so I may stuff epoxy along the edges.

I did the same to this one. I started with 5 polyps and grew it over a round base.
