Hello,

I recently set up my first Apex. I was setting up some strip light LEDs for the cabinet. They are USB powered and plug into a USB charging port that plugs into the wall. I had no idea the AquaBus ports were not normal USB ports. When I plugged the lights into the AquaBus port they wouldnt turn on. I hit off on the remote for the lights and the APEX reset itself. I realized somthing was wrong and unplugged the lights. The lights were broken, they would not turn back on after plugging into wall.

I dont care about the lights but could this have damaged the APEX? It seems to be working fine still, I havent tried using that port at all again.

Thanks.

The aquabus system is 12v, and USB devices expect 5v. So it certainly fried the lights, but hopefully the apex will be okay.

If it's working currently, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Ok that makes sense, yes nothing changed on the apex so hopefully all good, I am going to plug in a module on that port to make sure its still working. Thanks!

From what ive read - it will fry the "thing" that's plugged in but I'm pretty sure the Apex should be ok. Plug in a normal Aquabus item in and make sure its ok - if so I wouldn't worry at all.

Yes Im gonna try this when I get home. Frustrating the cables are identical but also very different! I questioned trying to plug it in for a minute or so too and concluded it must be USB! *sigh.

On the online get started to apex guide, they have some pretty big bold text warning against that :(

be happy it was some cheap LEDs and not a phone/tablet LOL!

Its not on the apexEL page! I only went through that startup and it doesnt mention it anywhere. It skips over the identifying of parts part of the APEX walkthrough.

I did just get off the phone with Neptune and they told me they have had people plug computers into it and fry them, only once has it damaged the apex should I should be good!
