So my sump is drilled for an external return pump. That pump was destroyed ironically due to water damage. So I bought a submersible return pump to replace it, as I would rather not have to replace it every time I get a “wee” bit of water in my basement.

Well, anyways. This leaves me with a 1.5” hole in the side of the thing. Patching holes is easy, bit of glass, smear some schmoo, apply pressure and let ‘er chooch til she’s dry and waterproof.

I am just wondering, seeing as the hole is towards the bottom, how am I supposed to apply the aforementioned pressure? Is it safe to tip a rimmed 57x24x24 1/2 glass sump on end? Or just silicone the patch and try and keep it from sliding down with bricks or something? Or just plug it with a bulkhead fitting and rig it up as a drain or something?

I do believe y’all are correct and that is the best course of action. What would the plumbing look like? Just the bulkhead, glue in a short length of pipe with a threaded or glued cap?
threaded plug or slip depending on bulkhead
