I've almost setup an auto water change thing using a DOS (yeah, more money than brains:D). The old water goes down the washing machine drain and the new water comes from a rubbermaid trash can.

The problem is how do I get the water out of the trash can. The simplest way is to drill a hole in the top and use a rock to hold down the water line, the Neptune line which is nice airline tubing but it has bends that will not come out. But that is messy and there must be some way to make it a little more high tech. Lets have some ideas.

I just drilled a 1/2" hole in the trashcan lid and put a 1/2" pcv pipe through the lid, sticking out from the top about 2 inches. Drilled a couple of small holes in the pipe near the bottom. Insert pump suction line down the pvc pipe and done. :)

Rigid RO/DI line (the colored red/blue/black) also fits the DOS and can be used with the push-lock bulkheads. Its what I use for all of my liquid containers (ATO, dosing supplements, etc). Note that the bulkheads arent "watertight" like the ones you would use on the aquarium (this means dont tip you containers!). Setting it up like this lets you easily remove the tubing from the lid when you need to refill and the tubing forms to the input/outputs of the DOS, so they stay on really well.
