I would like to use two separate returns, but do I have to worry about the pumps pulling at different rates?

No? I'm questioning my logic. The overflows separate too right? You just have to have enough volume left in the sump to support both tanks draining if the power goes off

Yes, separate overflows from two different tanks. I'm doing an oversized sump for sure! I was having a brain fart on whether id run the return section dry at two different rates...

Once the flow for both is stable I don't think it would. I want to do something similar. Please let us know how it comes out. Good luck!
