Plumbing a 150 reef tank

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to add my overflow for the pics. It came in the mail today but there is a middle piece that's keeping it from being a strait fit. I'll add pics. Idk if I should just take that pvc elbow off and see if that will work or just cut the support brace off the overflow.

.

What do you guys think? Should I cut that tab inside the overflow or just delete the 90 degree elbow? I'm going to buy silicone right now

Wouldn't you know it, right in the wrong place! I would just cut the tab around the elbow I don't think you have to entirely remove it. You need that center elbow.

Ok. I'll get the old dremel out lol yeah I had it custom made for my setup and it just had to come with a tab lol

You need that 90 degree elbow to get the BeanAnimal system working properly.

Can you de-attach that tab and re install it a little further right?

I'm thinking about just cutting it off. It doesn't even go all the way up to the glass and its heavy duty abs plastic. I don't see this overflow bowing or bending at all even without that tab

Well update. I got a little creative with my soldering iron and a file. Came out nice lol.

Make sure you think 2wtice, 3 times and maybe a few more before siliconing that in, that will determine your water level in the tank. You want the level above the plastic trim line.

. From my measurements the water line should be about 1/2 inch above the trim. Does this look right to you?

reeferbob also i forgot to reply to your message a while back. the staggered tank idea is the refugium on the high end spilling over into the sump. the dual nozzles are a small trickle coming off of the main return line. i stole the idea from a local pet store but now that you mentioned it i do see a potential flood risk. any ideas on an easy solution ? i like the idea you said about drilling the two tanks and have the water level equal but how would this work with it being a refugium? thanks

I think the best bet is to add partitions into the sump tank and have the refugium drain into that where it will cascade over a partition to the next compartment. Better though - is it possible to fit a larger sump under that tank? Even a 40B would be better than those 2 20s. Those 20ls tanks make great frag tanks but not much else. You should be able to set a 40B in from the top. Then partition it (with glass) and make a proper sump. Both my sumps are homeade 40Bs.

Awesome Plubming! I am getting started on my reef tank as well and would like to know what materials (pvc fittings) you used for your tank. I believe you have 1" bulkheads and 90 degree elbows attached...but what PVC parts are going on the back of the tank do you have? Thanks
