Newbie question. Working on upgrading from a 20gal with a HOB aquamaxx filter to a 100gal tank with a sump. What do you use to connect your pvc pieces. Go with all threaded connections, aquarium safe silicon, regular pvc glue or what? Open to hearing any other recommendations or advice on plumbing/sump setups.

Where possible I use slip fitting PVC with Oatey clear primer and regular clear pvc cement.

I have used threaded fittings and Oatey great white join compound.

Originally I used schedule 80 pipes and fittings but if I ever did it again I would use schedule 40 because the inside diameter is larger and will give better flow. This is especially true for fittings and valves. For the aquarium, I don’t believe there is any need for the larger walled schedule 80.
