I have never did the plumbing for a sump before and I am about to do it for my new tank. I want to do it right so if anyone has pictures with step by step instructions it would be greatly appreciated.

You might get some more responses if you gave additional information for the tank and sump you want to set-up. Size tank, drilled - overflow box(es) - return pump etc ..... actually a lot of different ways to skin the cat so it makes it tough to give you pics and step by step instructions without more details from you! Bet if you get a little more specific in your questions you'll get as much help as you need!

You might also try doing some searches on the basics of plumbing a tank as well as different set-ups ..... then when you think you have an idea of how you want to do it - run the plan by the forum here and make sure you're on the right track!!

I have a 135 gallon tank which is drilled with one overflow. I am getting a mag 9.5 or mag 12 for return. Sump is under the tank. I just want to do something simple. I have never done this before so the easier the better. Thanks for all advice.

recommendations:

1) use the max return diameter solid pvc you can.

2) adjust so under power out the sump does not flood.

________2a) be sure returns are above tank water line of have small whole drilled pointing down to water surface. These are needed to prevent the return lines from siphoning to the sump under power out.

3) insure normal operation returns when power is restored.

4) block the drain and adjust so sump runs dry before upper/display floods. return to normal operation and mark water line on sump. Never add water above the line with normal operation.
