Getting this pentair trough for a frag tank. It’s 8 ft long 2 ft wide and 12in tall, 120g. How would you plumb this? External durso? Herbie inside? How many drains? Was thinking 2, 1.5 inch drains. Thanks!

Looks cool. It's a little hard to tell, but I assume the bottom is smooth (not ribbed), like the sides? Meaning a bulkhead gasket would sit flush if you decided to drill and plumb from the bottom?

Found a photo on here of a durso style external overflow. Will this work well? 1.5 inch bulkheads? Any other recommendations?

How about keeping it simple with 2 bulkhead/pipes on the bottom (with strainers) each with a gate or ball valve for fine tuning. Then a variable return pump. When water pushed up = water draining down, your finished.

As an emergency drain, higher-up on the side than your preferred water-level, 1 bulkhead/pipe that drains any overflow to the sump... like the drain hole on the side of a bathroom sink.

Yea that was the original game plan, I guess my only concern is that if there is a leak. The entire tank will drain. At least with the durso in the pic above it will drain to the level of the bulkhead and be done. If it’s on the bottom and there is a leak the entire 120g will be on the floor!

Your statement is correct! Lol!

But then with a bottom drain— especially in a bare bottom frag tank— just think how much detritus you could push right down the ‘hole’ without stirring much up. :)
