Starting to design my plumbing for my new tank. I've viewed a lot of videos from BRS etc. and I love the look of the colored pvc. I found this on the HD site and the A-Zon:

FORMUFIT P001FGP-BL-5 Schedule 40 PVC Pipe, Furniture Grade, 5', 1" Size, Blue

Is this ready for prime time for saltwater? It's schedule 40 so it seems legit and comes in a lot of colors.

Yep, that's the stuff.

i bought mine from homedepot as well (same brand) works great and easily returned vs direct from formufit

fyi, i haven't seen a single homedepot that stocks this in store, but you can have them ship to store/home for free and return the unused 5' pieces

I got all my colored PVC pipe and fittings from AquariumSpecialty.com: https://www.aquariumspecialty.com/parts-plumbing/pvc-parts.html

The specifications on HD don't indicate that it's safe for "potable" water - which is a designation for "safe to use with water/drinking water"

For comparison - this is for a potable sch40

So are you suggesting that this isn't good for use in aquaria? I'm just seeing is as schedule 40 PVC....should be good in my opinion but I'd love to be proved wrong before I plumb my system.

Schedule 40 refers only to the size of the pipe. I can't pretend to know much of anything about the levels and designations of PVC pipe, but I have seen where people have had issues that they've contributed [truly or falsely] to using containers or reservoirs that are below some threshold.

I think that the general worry regarding designations of plastics is what they can/might leech into the water that they come into contact with. Personally, those pipes indicate that they are intended for structural use, for PVC furniture and other craft projects. With that said, Bulk Reef Supply doesn't list any certifications or safety standards for their colored pipes either.

I was just providing info for your consideration since nobody had done that previously.

BRS pvc is pretty much furniture grade. You can tell because there is no writing printed on it like regular stuff.
