is there a way to plumb a grow out tank that is 15 feet away into the DT so that all parameters are the same all the time? id do have a 3" conduit connecting DT cabinet to fish room. how to balance??

If I understand you correctly, there is a DT with a sump which you will passively connect to the sump of a grow-out tank 15 feel away? If so, in addition, you could drop a cheap variable return pump into the grow-out tank sump and shoot water back via soft tubing into the DT sump, to help recirculate the water and more effectively have the tanks ‘balanced,’ as you were asking. (I hope I got what you’re trying to accomplish correct.)

From your drawing yes it would be easier to flip the grow out so the overflow is facing the display then you need some pipe and connectors. How big is your return pump?

i cannot gravity back to the sump. that is the whole issue. i have to return thru the high conduit. is there a way to do that? is a more or less closed loop

Have you ever heard of a surge tank for race cars? It's a small tank with multiple pumps to support high horsepower engines, that's filled with the factory pump. You could do something like that get a 5gal bucket into a water holding unit supplied by the overflow with a pump in the bucket to return the water to the display

how would you balance that with the inflow?

That's where the fun will be the return will need to supply enough water so the lower pump will not run dry but slow enough to not overflow what ever container you use. It's a thought

that would impossible to balance though
