I currently have a 40 gallon sump, full of cheato and live rock. My return is a simple quiet one pump which sits in the sump by my in sump skimmer. I would like to add a 55 to the system, just sitting on the floor next to my sump. This will be used for some extra storage, grow out, tangs and will be connected to the main system. I'm not sure how to do this without drilling and spending a lot of money. Any ideas?

One way is to have your DT drain into the 55 and then from the 55 into the 40 and from the 40 back to the DT. Drilling is the way to go but most 55s are not drillable. That leaves siphons. You'll need a HOB overflow on the 55 to the 40 to prevent siphon loss. Run your siphon from the 55 under the waterline of the 40. Should be a fairly easy setup.
