so i have drawn a picture of my plumbing for my 240 gal. looking for feedback. obviously i am using a bean-animal overflow design, does my partial siphon line need a ball valve or not? i know that the full siphon does.

our return pump is a varios 8. the return holes are drilled for 3/4" returns and im not sure about size of the drain lines yet. after the Y in the return line it will be reduced from 1 1/4" to 3/4"

let me know if you see any issues or have any suggestions. the ball valves will be cepex so they will work as unions as well.

anyone have any places to order from that might be cheaper than BRS?

Plan looks great. I could not find Cepex true union valves anywhere else for the price or availability. But I did purchase a lot of my schedule 80 pipe and fittings at a local plumbing supply/irrigation company. Forget the big box stores. Waste of time.

are you familiar with bean-animal? does my partial siphon need to have a ball valve as well or is is good as is?

I wish I knew what size hole were drilled for the drain lines, then I could order the major stuff today, tank is gonna ship out in about 10 days...

In a beananimal the second drain doesn't need a ball valve, only the main, full siphon does. And the best thing is to place it as close to the sump as possible to have it purge air after a restart as easy as possible.

1+ pvcfittingsonline, I didn't order all my parts from them but they do have an excellent selection. Most of my fittings came from zoro.com because you can't beat there price anywhere else if you know someone in the contracting business. My only real suggestion is you might benefit from using a gate valve over a ball valve on your main siphon line.

well thanks for the lead on that site. that's a pretty big savings.

I will look into the gate valve. not sure of the advantage, was it that they disrupt flow less?

The gate valve is designed to meter water to a much greater degree. Precise adjustments that you will appreciate later when you are trying to balance the flow. Ball valves are really just shut-on/off valves.
