Do we glue the pipe to the overflow? Or just let it sit?

I would get a union in between.... but yes glue for sure.

Here is a pic of mine.... unions will help with maintenance, clogs...etc.

I second this. Glue them and use unions.

Just want to add I love your pipes. I wish mine were attractive like that. They are just white pvc with splashes of purple primer cause I am a messy plumber. lol

Lol thank you!! Don’t see it much anyway because I’m just having my secondary and primary pipes running into the filter socks, with my emergency in the second chamber and obviously a separate return line

Ah ok... was going to offer a seeded sponge from my sump to jump start your cycle. I'll be in Canton CT tomorrow morning.
I actually have another fish tank, saltwater, just never dealt with a big tank / plumbing. Thank you, anyway!!! It would have helped.

Also- is this overflow in the right place? Sorry, the reflection is bad lol.

Your water level will end up about a quarter to a half inch up those weir openings. Hard to tell from the pics but it may be a little low.
Will it ruin my tank? Like will I have to get a whole new tank?

make sure to buy extra unions of the same thread type... if you have to discard 1/2 of the plumbing mistake you'll want the compatible other half on hand (and not try to remember where the heck the union came from).
