1. Is pipe going straight down into the sump but not using bulkheads ok?

2. Should I use an union for the 2nd and 3rd pipe? With the current way, I can easily take out the pipes from overflow. Once I add unions, the upper half is stuck since the union will prevent the upper half from going through the bulkhead hole.

1, yes
2, I think you probably want to cement the pipe into the bulkheads to stop weeping and salt creep from the overflow(?) chamber above? I presume the overflow chamber will be flooded?

Yes I will glue the PVC in the sump to bulkhead using all purpose PVC, abs cement without primer. The overflow chamber will be filled with water. This is an Innovative Marine tank with internal overflow. I will NOT glue the PVC inside the overflow to the bulkhead even though it's a little loose right now ...

I did an old tank just like you have it but I used a threaded bulkhead instead of a slip so that I could just unscrew the pipes if need be.

Just be careful not to bump the drain pipes since it can be easy to crack the bulkhead or worse, your glass bottom.

Thanks everyone! Will glue everything in place tonight then. At first I thought this can't be this simple....I bought 6 unions and tons of elbows for no reason =P

If that happens I can change the primary drain and add some elbows into the the slot next to current slot
Not saying you will I've just never done it strait down for the full siphon before, but others have it sounds like your good to go, lots of good information coming in already!
