I am wanting to do some tweaking on my plumbing set up but my tank is up and running. Would changing the plumbing have an impact on my tank? My only concern is the pvc cement drying time..

You'll be ok, the drying time on the cement is mere minutes.

Sorry to intrude but do we just use regular pvc cement? Do we need to use primer?

Usually a good idea to prime, glue, insert pipe. THEN rotate that pipe or fitting 90 degrees and hold it in place for 15-30 seconds. It ensures that glue is evenly dispersed. Lots of times the reaction of the primer/glue and melting PVC will actually push the joint apart. So hold

I will take this a bit farther. Its a better idea to take and slightly twist the pvc back and forth until its difficult to twist. Once you set it at that point you can use it immediately.
