My tank has two overflows with 2 3/4in returns.

Is it ok if my return pump has a 1in output and I run 1in pipe to the returns and step it down to 3/4in at the bulk head? Or is it bad to have an oversize pipe going into a return?

Also for a durso stand pipe. I know not ideal. I read on the durso website that it is recommended to use a 1 1/4 in stand pipe on a 1in bulkhead. He said he uses a schedule 26 thin wall pvc in 1 1/4in.

Would it matter if I used a 1 1/4 schedule 40 pipe?

I think it matters that you use one for your main drain and one for emergency drain.
Having no emergency drain is asking for trouble if your main drain will fail.
As a return you can go over the top with a 1" and split it to two returns into the tank.
What size tank we talking?

Its a 120 4x2x2. It has 2 1in drains and it has 2 3/4in returns. Cant go over the back wife is not having it. So I am going with 2 durso standpipes and 2 returns.

Just wondering about the pipes. If the 1 1/4 durso can be a schedule 40 or if it needs to be a schedule 26 like the durso website suggests.

And can a 3/4 return have an oversized 1in line running up to it then step is down at the bulkhead or if I need to use 3/4 all the way.

Two drains and two return is great.
Use one drain as a emergency drain or you can use one 3/4 return as a emergency drain.
The thickness of the pipes isn't so much important as you don't build up enough pressure to grant that.
Regular thin pipe wall as is sch20 (not sch26) is enough.
Ppl sometimes use schedule 80 but manly for the look of the grey pipes.

1" for the drains is enough on a 120G, one 3/4 return for this is enough as well as you work with a return pump that will force enough return through it and don't go more that 900 gallon on a 120 as return pump.

I ran 1" from my pump up to the bulkhead and then stepped down inside the tank to 3/4" for the flex line. No worries. Works great.

Big G so your bulkhead is a 3/4in and you used a reducer on the bulkhead to turn the 1in pipe coming from the return pump into a 3/4in return on the inside?

Bulkhead is 1" with a reducer fitting inserted from the inside of the tank into the bulkhead to reduce it to 3/4" so the 3/4" flex line screws right in. Works great.

I guess that is pretty much what mine would be except turning a 1in bulkhead into a 3/4in line I would be turning a 1in pipe into a 3/4in bulk head. So the conversion would be happening an inch before where your conversion is happening. I think I should be fine then. Mostly I didnt want to buy more 3/4in pvc since I have tons of 1in pvc already.
