Hey Everyone,

Does anyone here have any experience plumbing tanks that sit at the same height as the sump? I'm building a holding system consisting of 2 x 180 gallon tanks, one on top of the other. Due to space constraint I cant sit the sump underneath the tanks like you typically would. My sump will have to be on the side the system and will sit at the same height as the bottom tank. I'm thinking I would need an external pump (or any strong pump) to pull water from the tanks through the sump since the sump would not be gravity fed.

Thoughts?

As long as the water level in the sump is lower than the DT, It will flow to the sump. That level will also determine how quickly it flows. Larger drain pipe size from the DT to the sump will help.

@Flippers4pups Thanks for the input. Are you saying that I could still do a gravity fed system so long as the water level in the sump is lower than the display? Just want to make sure I'm understanding you. Also what size pipe are you thinking? 2" +? Thanks.

I'm assuming your draining from one or both 180's into the sump? Either or they would need a overflow box up high to keep from draining everything into the sump.

I see what you mean. I was thinking both would drain into the sump.

Both could. Over flow boxes would regulate the amount of water draining into the sump. Flow from them would depend on the return pump flow back to them.
