Hey so I have a 120 upstairs that Has been running for a 1 1/2 years and also have 60 cube in my basement. I’ve ran all my plumbing to run the systems together and move my current sump down stairs. I was thinking of running my main overflow line to the 60 gal to save on pump usage since I can only fit one return pump in the sump area. I’m concerned that the overflow will stir up the tank and create a lot of bubbles if I go that route. Has anyone piggy backed tanks like this before. It would allow my to just feed the return the the upstairs tank instead of running the return to each tank??! Let me know what you think before I start gluing

You could plumb the drain from the 120 into the 40 then the overflow on the 40 drain into your sump. You just have to make sure that your overflow on the 40 can handle the volume as much as the 120 puts out.

That would be the simplest way to do it.

Yea it’s a 60 but that’s what I’m wanting to do but I have a lot of big colonies in the 60 and don’t want it to be all bubbles up. I think I could put the overflow into the overflow box of the 60 should work. Just curious if others have done this

Oops, my mistake. If you think in terms of a bean animal type drain, and undersize the primary drain to ensure it's full siphon and take it to the 60, and the secondary, partial drain, to the sump, as well as an emergency drain, you'll not have any bubbles at all. The head pressure from the second floor, would be adequate to even use line loc fittings into the 60. Might need a bit of testing, by maybe putting a gate valve on the full siphon to dial it in perfectly, but I believe that would work well.
