Plumbing recirculating skimmer plumbing

What is the difference in term of plumbing between a recirculating skimmer's water outlet pipe and automatic drainage system? My living room setup has an internal skimmer, but a new tank I'm building for bedroom only has room for external skimmer, and I'm new to external setups. Thanks.

External Recirculating skimmer discharge would have to go back into the sump through bulkheads. It’s flow would be to great to just discard into a drain.

So I'd like to confirm. I have Reef Octopus 200 EXT setup like this:

Water Outlet Pipe --> Sump, with gate valve turned to full ON position
Automatic Drainage System --> Sump, with valve turned to full ON position

Is this the correct operation?
