Im contemplating on setting my refugium inside my garage where I keep my QT tank.

My question is, I would need to obviously replumb into my garage, but I would also need to have a pump to push water there and back correct?? I’m trying to map it out so I understand where I need to place return pumps.

Your advice is appreciated

Are both tanks at the same height?

Trying to figure out if you can gravity feed to your refugium. If so then you just need a return pump.

Based on my experience only one return pump should be used as a return and the other should be a gravity drain line. Using two pumps would be risky as a single pump failure could result in a flood of some kind. I would consider placing a pump in the primary sump to feed the refugium and then a gravity drain to bring water back to the primary sump tank. This will change the dynamics of the sump though and the water level in the sump might require change to accommodate the display and refugium tanks draining down in the event of power loss. In this case a drawing with the layout of the tanks overhead and from the side would be helpful to understand the system layout and the differences in height between the tanks. While your garage might be a step down you could always raise the height of the tank stand for the refugium to compensate for the height difference.

Garages are places where toxic fumes hang out. Like carbon monoxide.

Not sure if garage-air should be interacting with a tank

I set up a 1500G extended refugium system in my garage. No toxic fumes.
In my case garage was 32” below house level. With such a small elevation change, I would maximize size of gravity drain. It may also be prudent to limit flow rate from garage to display.
