I am a complete noob when it comes to plumbing let alone plumbing a sump. I've read a ton and looked and even more pictures but I'm still afraid to tackle plumbing my sump alone.

Anyone available to assist me after the holidays?

Picture is of my 20 gallon long sump. I have one more baffle to put in for the bubble trap then I'll do a leak test. My pump is a mag drive 7 -- 700 gph I believe. And I'll be picking a dual overflow box from a Member of the group this weekend.

Thanks zesty. All great reads. I appreciate it.

No problem! These were some the links I used when starting and while it's a lot of info at first, it gets easier. I promise! haha

Another thing that helped was after I read these links, then finding other local reefer's and visiting/exploring it helped nail down what I wanted in a sump. Now that I'm going to upgrade my tank, I'm going to upgrade my plumbing, just because I've added more equipment and I could get rid of 2 or 3 pumps with a manifold setup.

After finding this earlier, it helped me nail down a design closer to what I want. I would suggest adding some tees and capping them off. That way, in the future you can get the gate valve, etc to run a reactor and you're not cutting PVC or tearing apart your plumbing. (Like I'm going to have to do) :frusty:
But, that's ok with me... Unfortunately, I learn by doing a lot easier than reading.

Here's the link with a nice simple manifold'd return line.

thanks for all help. that was helpful. I'm trying to read all i can before i do this lol

I'm getting a dual eshoppes overflow box from a local reef club member... so i assume ill need to plumb both lines to come into my sump right? Its hard to find examples of plumbing on non drilled tank. I just joined the local reef club so I'm hoping to get more examples of seeing others setups

Funny, I have a non-drilled tank with an eshopps overflow. Mine is just the single drain overflow.

That was one of those things that I wish I would have done is drill the tank...

Can you post a few pictures of your setup and sump?

you got it. It's not clean, but it works. I'm in the middle of 1, 2, no wait all my projects!
The other portion to this setup, is not below the tank, but behind it.

Here's the top-down of my overflow, you can also see the hole on the wall to the left of the overflow. I also added a maggie muffler to the right hand side drain, it was too loud for the more sensitive ears in the room.

Then, you can see the drain and it entering the wall.

I need to clean the skimmer cup before the cup collection thread starts!

After the skimmer section comes the fuge area that has turned into a coral overflow from the DT. (I have a coral addiction problem)

This is a picture I took about a week ago. The clowns were from a friend tearing down his tank. They are hosted in the acan, sleep together every night on the side of that big guy. So, I cannot in any way separate them from their acan, I would feel too bad.

Then it goes up a mag9 and returns over the top of the tank out front.

This is what it looked like 1 1/2 years ago. The DT had been setup with a HOB for About 6 months before adding the sump.

It was simple at this point. However, as time ticked by, I have added a few things to the sump.

Holy smokes! That looks great. Can't wait to get my sump going. Right now I'm using a fluval 406 and everything is happy but i know a sump would be much better.

Thanks! The sump made things soooooo much easier.

That's what I've heard and I'm looking forward to things being easier. Plus I can add my Auto top off I have as well. Once I get my overflow box this weekend I can start planning my plumbing. I appreciate all the help

This is what I would try. This would put your skimmer in a section that the water will not vary and have one drain on one side and one in the fuge. then both to your return. I just wish your middle section was a bit smaller... then you could have a bigger fuge. I don't know: thoughts from others?

pay no attention to the dimensions, I borrowed this from "the site that shall not be naaaamed", but it get's the idea across.

If I was near you I would come help. First off I would check your local club or a glass shop and see if you can get someone to drill the tank for you. You can use the overflow box off the eshopps and silicone it in place inside the tank. The drill bits are like $15 from brs and it's simple to drill just use water and let the weight of the drill do the work and you won't crack the tank. My recommendation to everyone not familiar with plumbing is to go to a home depot and just check out what fittings exist most are pretty self explanatory. Go to a local plumbing supply and get yourself clear primer if using hard pvc the purple just makes a mess and doesn't come out. Buy a pvc ratchet cutter makes it pretty simple.
