I will be plumbing my first sump setup on my 90g build, I have a few questions as this is my first non AIO tank.

First off my tank is only drilled for durso style drain so I have (1) 3/4” bulkhead (slip x slip) and (1) 1” bulkhead (slip x slip)…I’m wanting to plumb it manifold style for future plans for UV, reactors, etc.

My return pump is setup for 1” flex hose, but my return bulkhead to tank is 3/4”. I know I can reduce it down with fitting but my question is would it be best to use 1” plumbing (pipe, fittings, valves) for the manifold and reduce it at the end of manifold before entering tank side…..or reduce it at the entry of the manifold and use all 3/4” plumbing (pipe, fittings, valves)?

Reduce pump run at the end

Think running herbie style drain with the 2 bulkheads you have is what I’d do, and drill another hole for return on opposite side of tank on back panel, or over the rim return with no drilling

I did the over the back return with the herbie style. Peace of mind having that emergency drain.

i would love to be able to drill tank but its only a aqueon reef ready, the back glass I believe can’t be drilled. I may consider running return over the top, as I have planned to build a canopy that would hide it.

So it seems 50/50 on running 3/4 or 1” plumbing, I did oversized on my return pump and its DC so I have control on flow.

Yes, over the back return.
The two holes in the corner overflow are for the drain and the emergency. Much better then durso.
