I bought a trigger systems sump for my 75 gallon and I was wondering how I should plumb it.

The sump came with 2 tube connectors. The pipe from the tank fits snugly into the connector. Do I need to glue them together? The top of the connector does unscrew.

I would try without gluing if possible, a drain is usually not pressurized, so the chances of leaks is lower. However, if you do glue, put a union there, so you can disassemble it later if you need to fiddle the plumbing around in the future.

For mine, I used flexible tubing from the overflow down to the sump, and used a barb fitting, so I could easily edit it if I ever wanted to.

Also, the way it works is you screw the two parts together through the top of the sump. That O-ring on the screw portion should sit on top of the sump and keep the water from leaking.

Thanks guys! After some effort I got the two parts screwed together. Really hard to get my hands on there.

Looks like all my old pipes won't fit with the new sump and stand. So looks like I'm going to have to learn some plumbing!

So it looks like I can reuse some of the old plumbing, but the plumbing for the return, main drain and emergency drain will have to be redone. Is there anything I should be aware of having never done plumbing before?

Here is what I am working with. For the return, I think I just need a new piece of soft tubing as the other is too long and has a bunch of algae in it. Maybe I should go with dark tubing?

The main drain and emergency drain both go into the sump connectors. Or should I switch it so the emergency drain goes right into the refugium part of the sump?

Right now I am looking at making both of them as straight as possible and connect them to the sump.

First picture is how the overflow is laid out. I'm keeping everything to the first union. The part below that is too long to fit in the sump so I need to change that and then connect it up.

If the emergency goes to the refugium side, then in theory, your refugium would get no flow at all, unless something is wrong with the other 2 drains. I would think you want the slower of the 2 main drains to go to the refugium.

That's a good point. I wasn't sure if there was any concerns with having the emergency drain go into the connectors.
