Hello everyone,

I currently have a Red Sea 750XXL. We are adding a couple of tanks to our house and I'm wanting to plumb them together. One of those I'm planning on running through the floor, over about 15 feet, and then into the sump of my RSR750.

This tank is a tall 125 and has two corner overflows.

My concerns are as follows:

  • Power off/out drain capacity.
  • Drain quietness
  • Two drains into one larger drain before going under the floor? Or two independent drains?
  • Drains being large enough that they will work with the resistance of the pipe.
I plan on this tank plumbing into my Reefmat1200.

Anything else I should consider? Has anyone else done this?

My concern would be the whether the capacity of the redsea sump to handle the back flow when both returns are off. I don't have a 750 but I have a 300 and 170 and there isn't a lot of room left in the sump when the return is off. I've shared a sump before but it was a 125g basement sump.

EDIT : Another consideration is if something bad is introduced or a parameter goes out of wack both systems are affected. You also don't have the ability to run different parameters if wanted for lps vs sps etc. Those are a couple of drawbacks to a shared sump.

Thanks. Sump capacity is an overall concern, too. I'm more worried about the plumbing and making it silent even though it's a long length at the moment. I'm planning on getting creative with siphon breaks to help with sump capacity. But I may just run everything to the garage and do a sump out there. TBD. :)
