I seem to remember a BRS video(?) saying that it is not a great idea to have the pump being used for the UV in the sump, thereby drawing water from the sump and then having the sterilized water go back into the sump.

Is this accurate?

Sort of... What they are commenting on is pulling water from the sump and returning it back to the sump.
Option 1: pump in tank or pull directly from tank, through UV and plumb back to tank
Option 2: pump in sump or pull from sump, through UV and plumb back to tank
Option 3: pump in sump or pull from sump, through UV and plumb back to sump

Theory with the worst case is that the full tank volume may not completely make it through the UV as there is concern that water from UV will recirculate to UV and not to tank. Some will mitigate this by pulling from first chamber in sump and returning into last chamber in sump.
Mine is plumbed like option 2... BRS says to avoid option 3
Here is the short BRS video: The other BRS video:
Hope this helps.
