Somehow I ended up buying schedule 20 pvc instead of the 40. Didn’t realize it was different until my install was complete. Will the schedule 20 be able to handle the overflow/return? Or should I just redo the entire thing?

From what I know, Sch. 20 is mainly used for non-water applications (for example your central vac system). I know it would not be rated for the types of pressures that Sch. 40 or 80 are, but whether it will hold in your system is a choice you might have to make. It would most likely be perfectly fine for the overflow piping, but whether it holds with the return might vary on a number of factors.

Up here in Canada, Sch. 20 does not meet the Building Code for water applications so its only used for dry applications.

How large of a system do you have? If the cost is not terrible in replacing with Sch. 40 I would do that, but that's just me.

For what we use it for there really isn’t any pressure. It would be fine. Schedule 40 would give you a tad more insurance in case of possibly being crushed or pulled on. If it puts your mind at ease just replace with schedule 40, it’s cheap enough but I would feel fine with 20.

If your sump is in the stand below, you'll be just fine. The only pressure is the weight of the water in the return pipe....otherwise it's a non-pressurized system.

Ok cool, I actually checked, my return pipes are 40 and my overflow is 20. I think the returns experience more pressure.

On a drain for a tank 20 is fine. While it is not as thick, therefore as strong as sch40, it is not as thick so will allow more water/volume
