My return pump has a 1/2" outlet. Would I derive any benefit from running 1/2" vinyl tubing to a 1" pvc line into the tank?

You will lose psi. Do you know your targeted flow rate and the pumps gph ?

pump is rated 320 gph 6foot head I am looking for a 200 gph flow rate. My head is about 3 feet.

If you go to 1" pipe and push that column of water up you will lose a lot of GPH. I would stay at 1/2" and put a ball valve in if you need to reduce flow. As your pump ages, you will lose some GPH anyway.

If I'm reading this right your saying your pump will pump 320 gph @6' head if this right just add a ball valve to restrict flow or you could do as you were saying and add a larger pipe to reduce flow by creating more static head psi but a ball valve would be the easiest. this would make your pump something like 5oo-700 gph @ 0 head

Thanks Jeff and Blue. I'll go with the ball valve. I think that's the best idea.
