Plumes of dust - culprit?

I've now witnessed w occasions of huge plumes of dust erupting from seemingly nowhere. I mean HUGE! Tanks been up about a year. No signs of a mantis or other hitchhiker that could be responsible. No corals so not any spawning that I'm mistaking for a dust storm. What's going on?

Hmmm. I have this but suspected my wrasse going for something in sand but never caught him in action. I would see a bug cleared section I. Sand near base of rocks. No you got me wondering on this worm hypothesis

1 Mexican turbo snail

I should add that I have an engineeer goby but he's not the culprit. I saw a plume of dust on one side of the tank and could see the goby on the other at the same time. Couldn't have been him. It's a 5 foot tank.

If uve found chitons and vermetid snails than u most likely have stoms in there.
