Currently looking at homes and if there is space my dream tank would be 300gal or more. Maybe a 1000gals if there’s room. Anyone make one of these or know of a build thread? Looking to do a fish only tank with really big fish most of which you can’t keep with coral.

Did this ever turn into a build?

Right now because of our new house and so many things to do even my regular 75gal is on hold. I am completely redoing the basement around that time is when I’ll start working on the tanks.

Thanks for asking

Feel free to ping me if you have any questions on your plywood tank project when you get it off the ground. I gained some great experience building my tanks and I am more than happy to share my experience and lessons learned.

They did a really cheap job on the basement so I’m going to gut it and redo it. The false wall is split by the support beam. One 1/2 they finished and the other they left. The stairs divid part of it and the furnace and water heater as well. I was thinking to make a bedroom on the other side of the wall split by the stairs. There is a floor drain there though. Nothing goes to it. I could raise the floor up with 2x4s but I’m not sure how great of an idea it would be to cover that drain. I would have to have some kind of hatch to get to it. After the water heater is where I could open up the basement and make an L shape. This is where I would put the plywood tank if I can put the room on the other side of the stairs. Another option is to make a hallway around the drain and have the room smaller. I’ve ripped out the bar and two countertops that were down there as well as the drop ceiling. I also took out a fake divider wall and false beam that were by the bar. I’ll take a few pictures in case there are any basement experts.

This is what i’m Working with. The bed was set up for the mother in law that stayed for 2 weeks. My son saw it and took it over as a play room.

This is the side I want to turn into the bedroom. The washer/dryer is going upstairs and the softener is getting moved.

This is the area I’m thinking of using for the tank. I want to open it up into an L.

I would like to go 300gal as the very smallest bigger if I can. A 1000gal max.

Any idea on dimensions? One of the big challenges for a plywood tank design is the height of the tank. Are you planning to create a reef tank or fish only tank?

Fish only. I want the big fish that aren’t reef safe. My 75 is going to be a reef. As far as dimensions I don’t really have anything in mind but I want a long tank and I was thinking to put it in the wall. Cinder blocks for the stand. I would push the wall back and leave some space behind the tank.
